Short BIO
Siri Austeen live and work in Oslo, Sørumsand and Tistedal. She graduated from the Trondheim Academy of Fine Arts (1981–85). In her artistic practice, Austeen is concerned with the relationship between sound, place and reality; how different listening strategies affect our understanding of reality and ourselves as part of a whole. A recurring theme in her work is the interaction of individual, collective and ecological structures. Austeen’s practice often takes as its starting point exploratory field recordings, is expressed as site-specific sound installations, participant-based projects, performance and public art commissions.
She has presented her works nationally and internationally, including at the National Museum Norway, Henie Onstad Art Center, Ultima Oslo, Kunstnernes Hus, Galleri Rudolfinum Prague Kurt-Kurt Berlin among others. She has been part of collaborative projects like “Reality based Audio Workshop” 2018 and “Climata, Capturing change at the time of ecological crisis.” Oslo Praxis 2019. Since early 80-ies Austeen have been engaged in a numerous of musical projects like Tremulators, Tutti Contro Maggie and Tsarsten and the Freudian Slippers to mention a few. Her last sound publication “Tides and Wanderings” was published on the artist run initiative Breton Cassette spring 2024.
